My assignment for this project was to produce a keepsake hand fan for the Hong Kong Ballet production of Romeo + Juliet at Carolina Performing Arts, which coincided with the Lunar New Year / Chinese New Year. The final product is made of sustainable materials, and conforms to all CPA and UNC branding guidelines. It wishes patrons 恭喜发财 [gōng xǐ fā cái] - Happy New Year!

Using rapid prototyping processes and design thinking, I adeptly coordinate between departments representing executive direction, marketing/communications, audience services, and branding/licensing interests to generate mockups that fulfill all requirements, creative, promotional, and legal. I also harnessed cultural competency methods.

I research companies that can produce to our specifications and meet the turnaround time requirements, and select from a number of candidates based on their quotes/estimates.

I then coordinate with our chosen external direct marketer to generate final proof, review product samples, and coordinate delivery logistics to get the final product produced on-schedule. I also coordinate with finance departments to confirm and apply CPA’s tax-exempt status pro forma, as well as apply other discounts for which we were eligible.

I coordinate logistics of shipping/delivery and ensure the product is safely received and stored correctly. I personally review the construction and design, ensuring they meet our standards and requirements.

The final product was used as promotional/gift material at the Hong Kong Ballet production of Romeo + Juliet at Carolina Performing Arts.

Cost

The final cost was $1079, which was a 56.84% savings from our initial budget!

In-Hand Time

The final time to in-hand (referring to the time it took for the full batch of the final product to be "in-hand") was 5 days ahead of schedule

This project has now served as a template for future processes, and the hand fan has been duplicated for a number of other promotional endeavours.
