Interim Digital Communications Specialist - Carolina Performing Arts

The Digital Communications Specialist is a compelling storyteller and a highly flexible and engaged content creator across mediums, with an ability to adapt content for different audiences and outcomes. This individual will implement CPA’s communications and public relations strategy by researching, planning, creating, editing, organizing, and distributing digital content that effectively tells the organization’s story, ensures stories reach key constituencies, and positions CPA as an arts leader. Their efforts will directly impact the activation and efficacy of CPA’s digital channels to increase brand awareness, drive engagement, and generate revenue.

The Digital Communications Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications. They will create, repurpose, maintain, and optimize content targeted to current and prospective audiences. Routine deliverables include information about Carolina Performing Arts events and initiatives, features on artistic partners, permanent and student staff profiles, newsletter content, blog articles, ad copy, social media content and website content.

This position will manage projects from start to finish, sometimes working independently and other times as a member of a team. The Digital Communications Specialist serves as a key resource and subject matter expert for their colleagues regarding both digital and non-digital communications. They work collaboratively to ensure that content is professional, compelling, accurate, audience appropriate and conforms to best practices of writing and design as well as to University and CPA style, standards, and policies.

Marketing and Communications Assistant -

In my current role with the Marketing and Communications department at Carolina Performing Arts (since 2023), I am responsible for graphic design, copy-editing, photo and video editing, social media management, and promotional design. I also coordinate our cybsecurity/infosec strategies, working to minimise our attack surface and deploy agile solutions that fit with our evolving threat model. CPA hosts and produces performances from a variety of local, national, and inter-national guests.

In my role with Audience Services (2023), I was responsible for making sure CPA’s performance spaces are prepared to welcome guests, greeting all patrons, assisting with any seating or other customer service needs, and ensuring the safety of patrons throughout all performances. CPA hosts and produces performances from a variety of local, national, and inter-national guests.

Production Technician - Carolina Performing Arts

In my role at Carolina Performing Arts as a Production Technician (2022-2023), I set-up and strike stage elements such as lights and curtains, wiring audio and lighting, as well as using a fly-rail system. I also specialised in livestreaming and video production. CPA hosts and produces performances from a variety of local, national, and inter-national guests.

From 2021-2022, I held a position with the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics (HAPP) at Queen’s University Belfast as Student Ambassador, working towards School/Department outreach efforts.

I have been working as a freelance event videographer since 2013, covering events such as concerts, weddings, recitals, and athletic/sporting events.

Music Videographer - Phillips Exeter Academy

From 2018 to 2020, I held a position with the Music Department at Phillips Exeter Academy as Music Videographer, working to film and edit footage of the professional and student performances, as well as some theatre performances for the Theatre Department. I also lead and managed a team of four interns, establishing a successful training protocol for new hires.

From 2017 to 2020, I served as Co-Head of Reel Life Productions, a campus film organisation connecting filmmakers, actors, directors, and others interested in film and spearheading film projects.

I served from 2021-2022 as President of the Electronic Frontiers student organisation at UNC-CH. We believe that technology should support the intellectual freedom at the heart of a democratic society. We organise advocacy for digital civil liberties and provide resources/workshops through which all members of the UNC community can defend their right to privacy and security.

IT Field Agent - Phillips Exeter Academy

From 2018 to 2020, I held a position with the Information Technology department at Phillips Exeter Academy as a tech proctor field agent primarily deployed to the Class of 1945 library to provide onsite support, as well as some deployments to events (keynotes, workshops, Assemblies, film screenings) and remote support.

Co-Head - Makers of Exeter

From 2017 to 2020, I served as Co-head and founder of Makers of Exeter, a campus Maker organisation connecting Makers in the Exeter, New Hampshire area. MOE also organises trips to the World Maker Faire in New York City. During the COVID-19 crisis, MOE mobilised the student community to 3D print parts for masks to be used by medical workers on the front lines.

The Student Francophonie Coalition is an inter-institutional organisation that works to advance the speaking of French by students and spread francophone culture throughout student communities. In collaboration with the French Ministry of Culture, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the French Institute, the SFC holds film screenings showcasing films from francophone cultures through a grant awarded to the SFC for unlimited screening and viewing. The SFC hosted the first ever official celebration of the International Day of French Speaking at Phillips Exeter Academy.

I am currently conducting research for the NC DHHS LGBTQIA+ Health Assessment. The Assessment is designed to close existing data gaps, provide information on health disparities, and improve health equity. In this role, I coordinate with other survey researchers in the planning and implementation of in-person data collection at Pride events, conduct in-person data collection at LGBTQIA+ Pride events, and also support the Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch's outreach efforts.

From 2015 to the present day, I hold a position on the Executive Board of the North Carolina Service Learning Coalition as Director of Public Relations and Technology Consultant.
